Survey / Class Return Update

30 Jul 2020 by Sandra Gooch

Hi All, A big thank you to everyone who completed the recent ‘class restart’ survey. I will leave the surveys open on survey monkey for now in case anyone who hasn’t had the chance yet would still like to complete.

The overall feeling from responses received is that the majority of members are keen for classes to restart as soon as possible and for the children to start seeing their gymnastic friends again as well as exercising. There was also a high degree of commonality in responses about the areas of return that you are most concerned about.

Currently we are waiting news from Edinburgh Leisure with regard to a restart date and we will keep you updated as any new information becomes available. At this time we cannot advise a date for classes restarting: as soon as we can, we will let you know along with information about changes to the necessary processes to ensure compliance with all safety requirements in relation to the Virus.

In the meantime, Vivien has prepared a summary of items gymnasts will need to bring to classes going forward. I have pasted a copy below in case you have not already seen this.

Information from Vivien: “Heads up – just to make things clear for when we are allowed back in the gym – there are a number of things that you personally have to acquire in order to train.
FEET – get a pair of gymnastics training slippers keep them in bag of their own in your backpack no slippers no training.
HANDS – all gymnasts working grades apparatus MUST have THEIR OWN HANDGUARDS AND WRIST BANDS. If you do not have these you will not be allowed to borrow someone else’s so PLEASE make sure that you always have these in their bag and kept inside your backpack. Wrist bands should be washed regularly – this is important!
Everyone should purchase the chalk we have for sale at the gym or buy your own from Elite Gymnastics supply. This should kept in a decent sized box with a tight lid and in your bag. Please note that when you compete in competitions you are required, in any case, to take your chalk with you as the venue will not supply this.
Small exercise bands and bar wrist straps have to be your own with no sharing. You can get the straps and gloves from Elite or Gymnastics Express (good idea to compare prices). decathlon at Hermiston has packs of the three small elastics if you have a problem getting them. The wrist straps need to be sized to suit each gymnast and it would be best to buy the gloves and not think that any gloves do as they are special for working on shiney bar.
HYDRATION
You must have your own water bottle with your name clearly written on it. You will not be allowed to visit the water taps or share your bottle.
EXTRAS
A small pack of tissues
A small pack of antiseptic wipes for cuts and grazes plus a box of assorted bandaids
Antiseptic handwipes or small bottle of hand sanitizer
Anything else parents would like to add.
Training diary and pencil
This is all important do not forget to do a regular check, before coming to the gym, that EVERYTHING you require is IN YOUR BAG. Come dressed in your leotard and tracksuit and if this is not possible make sure you have these in your bag. It may not be possible to use changing rooms. While at training ALL your goods and equipment MUST kept inside your bag and not left lying around the floor or it may be put in the bucket.

Any questions just contact me by email and I will do my best to help

Also please let us know if you intend to take up your place at Kestrel. I am sorry I cannot give you information when things will start back but the above shows you things that we usually provided and can no longer do sharing. Contact me on Team ap in a private message please.

Keep training

Senior Coach Vivien”
